JUSTICE BY DESIGN DAY AT SUMMER SCHOOL TU DELFT – PLANNING AND DESIGN FOR THE JUST CITY

We are back folks with our second installment of #justicebydesign, titled Designing Otherwise.

We have a full day planned within the two week program of Planning and Design for the Just City Summer School run by the @centreforthejustcity at @tudelft

Our session began by introducing the ethical imperative in spatial design by centring the attitude. Then Irene Luque Martin gave an inspiring talk on Radical Spatial Imagination that really spoke to the ethical dilemmas many students have to navigate when pursuing justice in their everyday practice. This was followed by Johnathan Subendran talked about positionality in spatial design and led a small critical introspection exercise through attitude mapping to understand how each students identity and values influences their attitude. how they design and what they know and believe. Then the students had the choice to sign up for one of six skills workshops where they will explore radical and justice oriented methods such as improvised singing, textiles, and urban gaming. The day concluded with a collective dialogue and reflection on designers’ attitudes and ethics of our practice and discourse.

Check out the highlights below to see how the day unfolded.
