In collaboration with film maker and visual artist, Astrid van Nimwegen, we are delighted to share the film produced capturing the story of the first instalment of Justice by Design, the Winter School held at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture.

We asked Astrid to describe the artistic direction behind the film. Here’s what she said.

“The video documentation of the Justice by Design workshop captures the atmosphere of collaboration and exchange among students of the Academy of Architecture throughout the workshop week. Rather than a fast-paced montage, this style of documenting embraces a philosophy of attentiveness, allowing space for the relationships that emerge over time through shared moments, thoughtful exchange, and joyful, respectful interactions. The workshop’s outcome was not product-driven, but a collective inquiry into justice through different attitudes and through that, rethinking design perspectives — offering students insight into the complex ways design can relate to injustice and encouraging honest, open-minded reflection. The short film aims to convey this unique atmosphere and spirit of openness and collaboration.”
